Will you be sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and General Certificate of Education (GCE) Subjects and need their respective syllabus to prepare for the exams?
Every year, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) arranges private examinations (first and second series) and school examinations. The school examination is usually taken by secondary school students in the final year while the private exam is usually for the private candidates.
Therefore, it is common practice for the examination board, WAEC to use the syllabus to set questions for the candidates which makes the syllabus a vital resource to use for the exam. This is not different from areas of concentration that students usually ask for when preparing for their exams.
Who can use this WAEC Syllabus?
Students or Candidates who will be sitting for the May/June, Jan/Feb, or Nov/Dec WASSCE are implored to download and use the syllabus.
The syllabus contains a list of topics that examination questions are usually set from. It can also be used by School Teachers and Private Tutors to prepare their students for their upcoming exams.
Are the Syllabuses only available for Candidates in Nigeria and Ghana?
No, Since The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is conducted in 5 Anglophone countries in West Africa, namely Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone, this implies that you can also use the syllabus to prepare for your WAEC Exam.
Is there a syllabus for every subject?
Yes, there is a syllabus for every approved subject in WAEC. They are General Mathematics, Further Mathematics, English Language, Financial Accounting, Literature in English, and many others including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and more.
How To Use WAEC Syllabus
Confirm if your device can open a PDF File
Normally, most devices such as computers and smartphones would be able to open any PDF file provided a PDF viewer is found on them. If you are using a smartphone to access or download the file, there is a good chance that a PDF viewer has been preinstalled on your phone but if not, you can always download it for free on Google Play Store or App Store.
You won’t even need to download a PDF viewer if you own a computer as you can use almost any browser to open the file.
Download the syllabuses for the subjects you will be sitting for
As you know there are recommended subjects for science students, commercial students, and Art Students but the decision is still on you to know the exam you want to sit for.
You just need to scroll through the list to download the ones you need. A click on any of them will provide you with options, whether to open on your device or download into the device for access later even without the internet.
Review the materials
Syllabus is not a textbook or past questions and it is more like a compass to guide you through in your reading phase. Therefore, all you can do now is familiarize yourself with the topics.
While going through it, you will be able to evaluate yourself and know where to cover and where to revise. You should also take a little of your time to go to the last page and check out the recommended textbooks that could help your reading.
Get other materials
As said before, the syllabus is only a guide and you will need other materials to aid your reading. You should try getting at least one of the suggested textbooks and WAEC past questions that can aid you in reading better.
Prepare for the exam
There are different ways you can prepare for the exam. You can read on your own which will save you extra costs but attending lessons will help you more. Notwithstanding, if you can be very disciplined, then there is no reason why you can have a better session. It all depends on how much you want it and what you are willing to sacrifice to prepare in the best possible way.
