To pass the National Examinations Council (NECO) Exam with flying colors, you will need to make good preparation including getting a copy of the syllabus for all subjects you will be sitting for.
The NECO Syllabus contains the list of school topics in which exam questions are set. With the syllabus, you will be able to know where you are to put in your effort for the exam.
It is important to know that the examination board, NECO has no preference about which syllabus you use. Also, there is no one specially released from them. However, we have been able to establish that questions set for the NECO Exams are usually from the topics outlined in the WAEC Syllabus.
Therefore, you will be able to use the same WAEC syllabus for your NECO exam provided they are the same subject.
Can I sit for NECO outside Nigeria?
No, NECO is a qualification awarded by an examination body established in Nigeria by the government, but its Certificates are globally recognised or accepted. It can be used to study abroad, although the level of acceptance is not at par with WAEC.
How to use the NECO Syllabus
Confirm if your phone can open a PDF
The file itself is saved as a PDF. You will need a PDF Viewer to be able to access and view the content. If you are using a mobile phone, you can download the app for free from the Play Store or App Store depending on your device.
There won’t be any need to download for a computer as newer browsers are provisioned to open PDF file format.
Download the Syllabus
The syllabus for every NECO Approved Subject is available for free. You should go to the specific file you want to download to gain access.
You also have the option of opening it on your phone. However, I would advise you to save on your device to avoid coming back when you need info.
Briefly go through the content
The syllabus is meant for you. Take a few moments to look through the content for evaluation. This will give you an idea of where to work on and the topics to revise. This should not take more than 10 minutes depending on the bulk of the content.
Check the last page
Never finish up without going through the last page. It usually contains the list of recommended textbooks to use to prepare for your NECO Exam. Normally, I would suggest you select one textbook and then use it with past questions and the syllabus.
Start Reading
Do not be a student who starts reading a few days before the exam. Be a student who knows time is precious and willing to put in the work now.
Create a perfect timetable. 4 to 6 days should be fine and you should not forget to live out one day for self-testing. With this routine, there is nothing stopping you from being a straight A-Student.
