The Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF) is accepting applications for fellowships for advanced study or research for the new academic year, to be undertaken at a Belgian university or institution of higher learning.
This could be an opportunity for any eligible candidate who wants to study in the country. Fellowships provide graduate students is a merit-based scholarship usually given to postgraduate students while conducting research or pursuing their chosen careers.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for the Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF) fellowships must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship or permanent residency in the United States.
- Must either be:
- Registered in a Ph.D. or equivalent degree program in the United States at the time of application,
- Registered in a graduate program (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Belgium while holding the BAEF fellowship,
- Hold a Master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent degree. Post-doctoral applicants should have no more than 2 years since obtaining their Ph.D. degree by July 1, 2024.
- Knowledge of Dutch, French, or German is optional.
Target Group
Citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
Host Institution
Universities in Belgium and other eligible institutes of higher education.
Scholarship Value
The BAEF provides a limited number of fellowships, offering a stipend of $29,000 for Master’s or Ph.D. students and $33,000 for Post-doctoral Fellows, to support their academic and research pursuits.
Where and how to apply
- Applicants should take the initiative to arrange their registration or affiliation with a Belgian university or research institution.
- The application form can be downloaded from the official website (US application).
- Along with the completed application form, applicants are required to provide the following documents:
- Undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
- A concise autobiographical statement.
- A statement of their academic goals.
- Three letters of recommendation.
- Completed applications for the 2024-2025 fellowships must be submitted as electronic documents in PDF format and attached to an email sent to [email protected] before or on the deadline.
- Letters of recommendation should be sent separately by the recommenders to the same email address.
