Can I change the Date of Birth on my WAEC Certificate?

The truth is, mistakes are bound to happen but some mistakes could prove very costly. One of the mistakes you want to avoid as a student is to put down a wrong Date of Birth during your WAEC Registration.

This is why we always point out to parents, guardians, and students that they should always be careful during their registration. This will help them avoid the desperate need to find ways to change DOB on the WAEC result.

Before you submit your WAEC GCE registration, make sure to double-check everything one last time before clicking the “Submit” button. This will help you avoid any problems in the future. This information will tell you if you can change your date of birth (DOB) and what steps to take if it’s not possible.

Can a wrong Date of Birth on my certificate renders it useless

From our experience, we have noticed that most of this issue is not from the West African Examination Council (WAEC) but mostly from the school or even candidates who put down the wrong date of birth. This usually becomes an issue in the future when you have different DOB on your credentials for admission or job placement.

To answer your question, any information that does not tally with all your credentials could pose a big problem in your future endeavours. There is at least a 99% chance of you losing your admission due to having multiple dates of birth. For instance, your school record says you are born on May 12, 2002, while your WAEC result claims it to be December 5, 2002.

How to amend my Date of Birth in WAEC result?

WAEC Candidates will not be able to change or correct the date of birth on their WAEC certificate. The decision was made in 2019 which must have been influenced by the need to block loopholes.

We have also confirmed from different sources including the official reply made by the board to a candidate on Twitter. You can see below

What should I do to amend this error on my WAEC Date of Birth?

The truth is it is not as bad as it looks unless you have already staked all your hope on the certificate. Now that this happens, the option that is left for you is to sit for another exam.

There are at least 4 exams every year in different periods. We have the WAEC School exam and the WAEC private exam otherwise known as WAEC GCE. Another option you can consider is the NECO Exam or NECO GCE. Instead of worrying and hoping there is a way out of this, you should take advantage of the next upcoming exam and sort out this issue once and for all to avoid further issues in the future.
