ABU Cut Off Mark 2024/2025 is Out for All Courses

Ahmadu Bello University is one of the most prestigious schools in Nigeria and it is no surprise that it is a choice for many students in Nigeria. As a Student looking to gain admission into the school, you must meet at least the lowest cut-off mark for the course you want to study is important.

As you may be aware by now, the examination board, JAMB is responsible for fixing the minimum cut-off mark that every higher institution such as Universities, polytechnics, and Colleges of Education must abide by. However, individual schools can adjust but not below the standard set by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

Some schools may have departmental cut-off marks different from others, so it is important to do your due diligence, especially before writing the UTME Exam, even though the cut-off marks can change yearly. Even if it changes, the difference is not usually much which gives you something to set your target.

What is ABU Cut Off Mark?

ABU Cut Off Mark is the minimum cut-off mark that applicants or students are to have in their UTME result, By making the cut-off mark, they will also qualify for the Post UTME Exam which is an important step towards gaining admission into the school.

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has fixed the cut-off mark for the 2024.2025 academic session at 180 for all departmental courses offered at the School.

Note: The new official cut-off mark for all departmental courses at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU) is yet to be released. When they do, we will update this post as our usual practice, they may stick with the same which is enough to give a headstart.

How Screening Score is Determined at ABU

As a student, the first thing you should know is that JAMB UTME is only one of the steps, there are other processes that the school uses to decide who makes the admission list for the 2024/2025 admission.

The school will consider the number of applicants received. Another is the quota of students for each department currently run by the school. Then we have the admission policy of the school which will include Catchment areas.

All these will determine the cut-off mark that qualifies students for POST UTME.

  • Meeting the Jamb cut-off mark may not be enough to qualify for some highly competitive courses.
  • It is also important to meet the O’level subject requirements as the school will never reduce their requirements to accommodate you into any of the faculties.

Why is it important I meet the minimum cut-off for ABU?

If you score at least 160 in the JAMB UTME, you can take the POST UTME exam. This exam is one of the criteria for getting admission to study the course you want at the university. This implies that for any student to be admitted into the school, they must have at least 160 in the UTME Score before they are allowed to sit for the Post UTME Exam.

Does ABU accept second choice?

Yes, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU) accepts second choice but having them as first choice, especially for competing courses will give you a better chance to get admission after satisfying other requirements.

I scored below 180, can I still get admission into the ABU?

No, you cannot secure admission into the school as the school irrespective of the department will not lower the announced cut-off mark by the JAMB. It is important to meet up with every requirement as set by ABU. 

What is my chance of getting admission at ABU?

The assessment is merit-based. To stand a better chance, you can change your course to a less demanding course. Courses such as Medicine, Accountancy, Business Administration, and Law are known to have large numbers of applicants yearly. If you have a course you are considering and most importantly that you have passion for, you could change to such a course.

However, avoid having anything come between your first choice as there is also a possibility that you might just get the programme you initially applied for.

Will there be a Post UTME Exam this year at ABU?

Yes, There will be an ABU UTME Exam this year. Therefore, it is important to start preparing as early as possible as the score from the exam could give you a push irrespective of your overall jamb score.
