UBC International Scholars Program awards are not just one award, it is made up of 4 categories of awards, namely Vantage One Excellence Award, the International Impact Award, Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award, and the Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award.
50 Students will get any of the 4 merit-based awards depending on which one they qualify for, giving every eligible international student a better chance of getting the support needed to take their education to the next level.
Each category of the Award
1. Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award
This accolade aims to honor international undergraduate students who have shown outstanding academic excellence, exceptional leadership acumen, and active participation in education, and the community as well as other notable accomplishments worth noting.
2. Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award
This esteemed recognition aims to commend exceptional international undergraduate students hailing from impoverished or war-torn regions, who have displayed remarkable academic prowess despite enduring challenging circumstances.
These resilient individuals have exhibited outstanding academic excellence and, against all odds, have achieved notable success in their educational journey.
Importantly, this award acknowledges the significant financial hurdles these students face and highlights the pivotal role of substantial financial assistance in enabling their access to higher education.
3. International Impact Award
The International Impact Award is for outstanding individuals who have exhibited a deep sense of responsibility toward creating positive and impactful change within their communities and beyond.
4. Vantage One Excellence Award
The UBC Vantage College graciously extends this prestigious award to academically exceptional international students who have not yet met the English Language Admission Standard for direct admission to UBC. This financial support ensures that deserving students can fully immerse themselves in their academic pursuits without the burden of financial constraints.
Program of Study
All programs currently offered by the School qualify for the University of British Columbia International Scholars Program awards Scholarship.
Eligibility
1. To stand a chance of getting the school award, you must be a foreign student who intends to study in Canada on a Study Permit.
2. All applicants must be coming from a prestigious or recognized secondary school or just a year into a university or post-secondary college and want to transfer to UBC.
3. Your past academic results must be good to the extent of achieving As or equivalent in the results.
4. Candidates will also have to demonstrate the need for financial support which will out it may stop them from their dream of studying at UBC in Canada.
5. It must be the first time you are applying for an undergraduate degree.
6. All admission requirements including general and degree-specific requirements and the English Language Admission Standard must be met by the applicant.
Target Countries
All students from EU and non-EU countries are eligible for the program. However, only the best students will get the Scholarships.

- To be eligible for the International Scholars Program, you must receive a nomination from your institution or a non-profit organization. Additionally, you are required to submit a reference letter from an academic referee. Ensure that your school or non-profit is capable of nominating you.
- Inform your nominator and academic referee of your intention to apply for the International Scholars Program. Your nominator could be your school counselor or someone in a similar role, while your academic referee should be an individual familiar with your work or studies, such as your teacher in your chosen field of study.
- Assemble the necessary financial information, as well as any relevant details regarding your extracurricular activities and awards.
- Submit your application for the International Scholars Program before the deadline
Deadline
The scholarship will close on December 1, 2023. All interested international students are advised to apply as early as possible.
