The Nigerian Maritime University (NMU) is an institution established to cater to the educational needs of the maritime industry in Nigeria. The university was proposed by the Nigerian federal government as a specialized institution to provide training and education in maritime-related fields. The NMU was officially established in 2018 through the passage of the Nigerian Maritime University Act by the National Assembly.

The Nigerian Maritime University, situated in Okerenkoko within the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, aspires to emerge as a premier institution for maritime education, research, and training not only in Nigeria but also across the broader West African sub-region. Offering a diverse array of programs, the university specializes in fields integral to the maritime industry, encompassing marine engineering, naval architecture, maritime transport, and maritime environmental management.
